The Fantales Series (16 untitled) was created for an exhibition at the Katherine Mansfield birthplace, Wellington (2013). The form of the fan offers multiple glimpses and interpretations allowing the hand made artworks to be assembled and read as a single ‘fantale’. These unique artworks made of etchings and monoprints, some with chinecolle, were individually hand printed on archival Hannemuhle or Rives de Lin etching paper. Inspiration for this series was drawn from Katherine Mansfield’s life and written works.

Inspiration for this exhibition (2014) was drawn from the last entries in Katherine Mansfield’s notebook shortly before her death.

These artworks made of etchings and monoprints, some with chinecolle, are individually handprinted on Hannemuhle or Rives de Lin etching paper and assembled with linen thread and archival glue.

The Calling Thetis series relates to passages in Homer’s Iliad when Achilles in his anguish summons his mother, the sea goddess Thetis, from the depths to counsel him.

The Memory Series (2003) is 9 panels made of wax encaustic over artworks (etchings, Indian ink, egg tempera, linen) on a ground of traditional gesso.

The Lampshade Series (2018) are made from etchings, monoprints, linen thread and painted wire frames assembled into unique artworks that can be illuminated as a pendant or a standard lampshade.

The Ariel Series (2001) followed the death of the artist’s father. The poetry of T.S Eliot is referenced in this work. Egg tempera, gouache, ink, linen on traditional gesso.

This series of 30 unique works was started in 2004 and relates to the Ariel Series of paintings, 2001. These are intaglio etchings often with Chinecolle creating a series of unique artworks. They are hand inked and printed on Hannemahle or Rives de Lin archival paper.

This series of monoprints (2013), are on Rives de Lin archival paper, some with chinecolle. 

Creating these was a response to studying the ancient Greek language and Homer’s Iliad.

I listened to the songs of Bob Dylan, forever young and forever writing, and often I was thinking of my mother and my grandmother. Like the tuis with their restless souls, they came to me. All of them, as kindred spirits. “

The hand inked works on paper are limited editions of solar plate intaglio etchings on archival hand-made Rives de Lin paper. Variations exist from using chine colle or multiple plates.
