The Fantales Series (16 untitled) was created for an exhibition at the Katherine Mansfield birthplace, Wellington (2013). The form of the fan offers multiple glimpses and interpretations allowing the hand made artworks to be assembled and read as a single ‘fantale’. These unique artworks made of etchings and monoprints, some with chinecolle, were individually hand printed on archival Hannemuhle or Rives de Lin etching paper. Inspiration for this series was drawn from Katherine Mansfield’s life and written works.

“In the stillness of this April of 2020, the tuis arrived in abundance in our garden. And so I read Katherine Mansfield again with her birds and the sea and her longing for home. I listened to the songs of Bob Dylan, forever young and forever writing, and often I was thinking of my mother and my grandmother. Like the tuis with their restless souls, they came to me. All of them, as kindred spirits. “
The hand inked works on paper are limited editions of solar plate intaglio etchings on archival hand-made Rives de Lin paper. Variations exist from using chine colle or multiple plates.
